22nd Annual Grande Ronde Amateur raises funds for purchase of medical equipment

LA GRANDE- Seventy-two golfers came together for the 22nd annual Grande Ronde Amateur golf tournament held September 9th-11th, 2016 at the La Grande Country Club. The Amateur features 36-holes of individual stroke play golf spread over three days, followed by a Sole Survivor competition on Sunday afternoon.

Corporate sponsors, Legacy Auto Group and Pepsi Cola Bottling Group of La Grande are proud to announce Kevin Logsdon of Baker City, who shot a gross 150, and Beccy Kramer of Imbler, who shot a gross 155, as men’s and women’s champions, respectively.

Following regular play on Sunday, a field of 30 of the top golfers gathered to compete in the six-hole, team and singles Sole Survivor competition.  A substantial crowd followed the players shot for shot. In the team Sole Survivor competition, after a clutch sand wedge shot by Dwayne Craft, he and partner Monte Williams were crowned the team Sole Survivor champions holding off their challengers through the last putt. In the individual Sole Survivor competition, Mark Grigg of Baker City bounced back after a risky tee shot into the trees and survived fierce play from Blake Bars of La Grande, ending in a chip-off with Grigg winning the title.

Patrick Flynn, Foundation Manager for Grande Ronde Hospital was pleased with the turnout. “The number of golfers this year was great and made for a very exciting competition.” Flynn added the turnout was strong due to longtime supporters, as well as the addition of new competitors and sponsors. “Some of our golfers have been coming out every year for twenty plus years and we can’t thank them enough.”

Flynn pointed out the sponsors and volunteers are key to holding a quality tournament. “The foundation of a great golf tournament are great sponsors and volunteers who help everything go off without a hitch. The golfers love seeing familiar faces every year. It all came together for an outstanding weekend supporting the GRH Foundation.”

This year, proceeds from the tournament will go toward the purchase of new technologies for Grande Ronde Hospital and its clinics in the form of one of two 3D Mammography machines replacing the current mammography machine, allowing for more accurate and higher resolution images. The Foundation will also be purchasing a Hematology Analyzer for its clinic lab and an EKG machine for the new Cardiology Clinic.
