Hospital Welcomes First Baby of 2017

LA GRANDE –Florence Marie Abercrombie made her debut as the first baby born in 2017 at the Grande Ronde Hospital Family Birthing Center on Wednesday, January 4th at 8:57 PM. She weighed seven (7) pounds 15 ounces, and measured 19 ½ inches long. Florence was born to parents Troy and Rikki, and to big sister Lucy.

To honor sweet Florence’s special arrival, the Auxiliary prepared a gift basket overflowing with blankets, diapers, and other essentials. The sewing committee also sewed a beautiful white stocking specifically for the New Year’s Baby (all December babies were gifted with red stockings). The basket and stocking were lovingly delivered on Thursday afternoon by Auxiliary President Ruth Leitch, who took a moment to congratulate the family on behalf of the Auxiliary members.

The first several days of 2017 have been spent in anticipation – this is the latest New Year’s Baby in at least seven years! Rikki said she “couldn’t believe there was no [New Year’s] baby before today!” Rikki’s due date was five days before Florence was born. Troy and Rikki were appreciative of the gesture and seemed to be resting happily with their newest addition to the family.
