Speech-language pathologist available at Grande Ronde Hospital
Karen Wing, MS, CCC-SLP

LA GRANDE — Karen Wing, MS, CCC-SLP, is a certified, licensed speech-language pathologist. She has been practicing speech therapy in Eastern Oregon since 2010.  Karen graduated with honors from Oregon State University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, with a focus on Community Health. She received her Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from Idaho State University in 2010.  She has worked for La Grande Post-Acute Rehab, the Intermountain Education Service District in both La Grande and Baker City.  For the past four years, Karen has also worked as an on-call at Grande Ronde Hospital (GRH) serving patients primarily on the weekends in the hospital.

In 2014, Karen became a full-time therapist for GRH, seeing patients not only in the hospital, but also serving patients through the Rehab Therapy Department in an outpatient clinic setting.  Experienced in treating all ages from infants through geriatric patients, Karen offers a wide range of services including speech and language, voice, cognitive, and swallowing therapy.  She is the only therapist in Union, Baker, and Wallowa counties certified to provide the VitalStim® Therapy program along with traditional swallowing therapy to assist in rehabilitation of swallowing disorders caused by neurological disease, strokes, or normal aging.  This therapy has been shown to improve swallowing recovery when paired with traditional therapy techniques.

Karen has served a wide range of patients including those with Parkinson’s disease, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, strokes, neurological disorders, traumatic brain injuries, Multiple Sclerosis, autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, articulation disorders, and swallowing disorders.  She has provided speech therapy services in acute care, inpatient rehab, outpatient, long-term care, and school settings serving pediatric, adult and geriatric populations.

Karen, her husband and their three children live in Union. Their favorite past-time includes anything they can all do together outdoors.
